Snow Atop Chew's Ridge

Posted by
Monterey John (Hollister, CA, United States) on 28 January 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Another shot from atop the mountain.

I have not shot snow in a long while, we don't get much of that stuff here. All my pictures came out hideously under-exposed. You would not believe what I had to go through to recover them. Thank God for RAW format, Lightroom, Photoshop and the dfine noise reduction plug-in.

Hopefully I've learned a thing or two so I don't have to go to quite this much effort in the future. My brother suggested bracketing and my son suggested +1 f stop when shooting snow. Do believe I will take their advice.

How vibrant and clear! You've become a real "ace" in the processing dept. You are working your tools and image to their best advantage.

Some would go as far as shooting at +2 ev! At least if you did, you can dial it down in Adobe Camera Raw, and you retain all of the highlight detail as well.

This one is wonderful, John. Well shot and edited, but just beautiful. I can actually feel the quiet that a snowy scene usually brings.

Fine work on recovery. If there was any issue at all it is not visible now.
As one described this "Paradise".
You really captured the spot in my heart for wanting to see snow.
For a place that does not get much this certainly is worth the wait.
Absolutely beautiful. I could look at this all day.
