Something a Bit Different for Me

Most folks know I'm a scenic shooter and have not ventured into "people shooting" all that often. Oceans and mountains don't move around much :) Well, I'm beginning to develop some confidence in my ability to shoot real human beings and what they do, and here is one of my first (published) efforts.

This is a "bucket brigade" competition during the Firemen's Muster at the Spreckels, CA 4th of July celebration.

Wonderful scene here. The two trees look as if they cannot ever be apart. Just lovely.

@Tammy-Cricket: Ooooops, I had the wrong picture here! That "trees" later in the week and Tammy saw them. she's not crazy, at least insofar as I know :) Sorry Tammy, this is the right photo for this post.

hahahaha...I am laughing. I came back to see if it was me. I kept looking for people in the picture and it didn't make sense. I know it is late but I can usually handle myself at this hour pretty well.

Now...you did a fantastic job on this image. I am like you in that I rarely capture people other than my children. You captured emotion perfect.

I am so glad to know that I am sane.

Oh John, you've taken me back to 1958 & 59, when we attended the muster in CT. Mike was a volunteer then, before he went onto the paid department. So much jolly fun and keen competition among such dedicated men (and now women).
This is a wonderful people shot ... glad you are stretching yourself! :D

A great foray into human/action phtoography! Excellent action shot--love the droplets of water caught between the buckets. (you know what would be a great thing to put in a Scavenger Hunt?--a fireman WITHOUT a moustache! :) That would be a challenge to find!)

Brings back memories of my younger days in NY. Great Grandpa, Grandpa and Dad were all volunteer firemen and the summer contests were sooooo much fun!

Fantastic people shot, John. I like all of the faces of the crowd and how you stopped the action of the men and their buckets with splashes in the air. I think you did great on this one.
I understand where you are, going from nature to people. For a very long time I shot only nature, once I captured a few people shots I'm always hoping for more opportunity to capture people and their expressions.
