Elkhorn Slough - Bringing a Knife 2

Posted by MontereyJohn (Salinas, California, United States) on 4 December 2008 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

Another image from my attempts at wildlife photography at Elkhorn Slough.

This stuff is a lot harder than it looks and requires some serious equipment which i lack. However, I did push what I have about as far as I could, and that is a valuable learning experience. Frustrating but fun, kind of like golf :)

Techy stuff: The reason the background is so dark is that what was it took to bring the white egret out. Prior to a major reduction in the exposure, the bird was totally blown out. Thank goodness for RAW, the necessary data was there. Also, Lightroom made this task pretty easy.

This is a huge crop due to distance involved, cut away 80% or so of the picture.

Thanks for dropping by and sharing in the joy I take in this art of photography. Enjoy your visit, and if you have any comments or useful criticisms, please feel free to share them.
