Fire in The Los Padres
We have yet another fire going in the area. This one is about 35 miles south of Salinas. The wind came up from the southwest late this afternoon so the smoke is on us along with a significant ash fall.
Interestingly this is all due to falling temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. This situation has caused cold air to park itself over the Northwest which cut off our rain. On the other hand, ski resorts are still open in the Washington Cascades north of us. It also has brought the violent and wet weather in the middle of the country as warm moist air is drawn up from the Gulf of Mexico.
Al Gore, call your office.
It's going to be a long summer.

How can anything so beautiful be so devastating, I hope it settles soon and nobody gets hurt

Oh, yes. I saw this frightening scene from where I am in San Jose. It's truly unbelievable that nature could create this symbolic apocalypse before us. Hope there was not too much destruction. Beautiful, dramatic shot. The moon or sun reminds me of humanity's lost hope.

nice shot here with great colour tones... the area where I live encounters a lot of fires around it as well during summer... the bad thing is that most of them are deliberately lit...
